  • Group Purchase - Alloy Long Range Tank !

Please see post 27 and 28 ON THIS THREAD if you are interested in a new aluminum fuel tank from Boyd Welding.

PM "A Brit from Bama" or "Wolf76STL" if you are interested. As you'll see, there is a big discount with a group buy.

This was very successful several years ago when Bob Danielson organized a group purchase and Keith (A Brit in Bama) has been kind enough to spearhead this latest drive. All indications show the previous buyers are very happy with these tanks and that's all that Boyd Welding does - fabricate custom alloy tanks.

    Cheers,

    Wolf

What Paul said. The welding is beautiful, and the extra range is great on road trips. If you get any rust in your fuel filter, it won't have come from this tank.

As Elwood says, it is starting fresh so to speak, but in case you already haven't done it, it's a prime to to replace any old fuel lines with modern ethanol resistant lines.

In an attempt to give a progress report, I'll list the names that I know of that may be interested so far.

(I'm temporarily looking after this for Keith as he is traveling across the pond to take care of a family matter.

Please feel free to correct this list or add to it....

              1. A Brit in Bama
              2. Wolf
              3. tr250 ? maybe
              4. Mikerla
              5. mrjim
              6. dicta

If I missed any names, please let me know by PM or post. Or, if you need your name removed, let me know that too. If you do the hard math, you can see that we're not far from the first discount threshold of 10 units.
(And I've probably left some off who have PM'd Keith.)

              Cheers,

Thanks for holding the fort, Kevin.

I don't have any additional takers beyond the list below - looks like we're looking for another 3-4, depending on whether Todd remains a "maybe".

If Todd would buy one for all of his TR's we'd get a really nice group buy! :woohoo:

With regards to my 73, the increase was a bit over 3 gallons, 13+ vs. 10, for about a 30% increase in capacity.
Range wise, an increase of around 70 miles or so. Deeper penetration and more loiter time over the target.

More details might dislodge some fence-sitters :P :

Does it fit between the rear trim panel and the trunk board without issues? It ought to on a '250 as its tank capacity is 13.5 US Gallons anyway.

How many rust-in-gas-tank cases are there? I've never had a problem with CD8315L's or CD6170L's tanks and they've never been treated.

Is there a coating on the inside? Aluminum corrodes in the presence of moisture in some cases and we wouldn't want any white fluff clogging the fuel system any more than we want the red fluff doing so.
