  • Air compressor launches missile.

I have a Hausfeld vertical air compressor in my garage, about 15 years old. It has a manifold on the front of it with two guages, two quick connects, and a pressure adjuster.

i turned it on the other day while I was putting a plug in a nail hole in my beater BMW tire, and a few minutes later I heard a loud bang. The manifold shattered and launched the regulator...I still haven't found the knob, though I found some small internal bits. Fortunately it didn't hurt any of my cars or me.

i figured I would never find a spare part but to my surprise it's on Amazon for $30 including guages and quick connects. Five minutes to change.

    be careful out there.

When I hear stuff like this I think of the movie "No Country for Old Men"
I had an air tool launch once when it's threads gave way....lucky for me it was pointed in another direction at the time.

When I was younger, I had to have the largest bench grinder sears offered. Bought a 1hp grinder and put on a buffing wheel. I remember polishing some small cylindrical part that in a millisecond, was yanked out of my hands, and thrown past my ear imbedding itself into the garage wall. I am lucky it didn't go through my skull. No need for high powered tools in certain forms...
