  • A-type OD relay snubber diode

Has anyone installed a snubber diode to prevent arcing in the OD relay when actuating the OD? If so, what diode did you use and where did you locate it?

    1N400x, where x=1 through 8.

      does it matter which one?

The difference is the reverse voltage they will withstand. 1N4001 is 50 volts, I believe, and up from there. In this application, reverse voltage is the car's system voltage, so theoretically, any of them should work. There can be spikes in the system, though, so to err on the safe side, 1N4004 is pretty common and rated at 400v.
