  • Snap tool? That Hoover price sucks!

Ok.So son and I are cruising through some clean-up work...already done the taillight disassemble, clean, and re-assembly (yeesh, those gaskets need to be thicker). Today we began replacing the "hood," and just about ruined the snap setting pliars from Hobby Lobby, or wherever I got them. They just couldn't handle my hands and caved in somewhere around the 3th side snap!
My FILs old multi anvil "visegrips" style set gave up the ghost while we were replacing the top 16 years ago..His answer was to use Duck Tape to secure the anvils to real Vise-Grips.
I did an interim re-use (or scrounge up) of a fairly lightly used top a few years back, but even it was 25+ years old. It died being used, shrunken too small to call a bikini top! Oh, and the DuckTape Vise-Grips?
Yeah, they didn't work too well, which is why I bought the lightweight pliars-type to finish that job!
Knowing I'll do at least two more tops, and have use for this tool in other areas, I'd like to know if there is a lower-price, effective alternative to the Hoover $150 set. If not, I'll watch the 'Bay and see if I can get one closer to $90.
What have you used besides the hammer and dies type?
    Thanks in advance,
    Jim in MS

TI got this vice grip snap setter online, works pretty well for the dozen or so snaps i’ve used it for: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002V0AXMC..._TLrNqlCBrvGaq

It’s just 1 size, and the anvils are welded to the jaws, so they’re pretty solid. It’s a good size for the snaps on our tops and top cover.

      Thanks Frost,
That is more in line with what should handle the quick, light load!
