    Hi Guys,

    Long time, No write! The taxi cab is still driving, just not as much these days. My oldest boy has been learning to drive it. My FIL and I completed his LED TS/Marker light conversion last week after shredding the dash, sending gauges to Nisonger's, replacing the TS switch, rebuilding the steering column, and putting in a three terminal led flasher...the flasher runs the TS indicator light in order to NOT use TS ballasts. This works great!

    I'm considering replacing my worn out dash (see the 15-17 year old avatar-bleck!). It is time to teach my oldest son about vehicle maintenance. It isn't going so well. I expect a bit much from unskilled hands.

    Anyway....

    I noted some time back Tom74TR6 offered patterns to any askers (I did search...here and on the Interwebs). I sent a PM to him, but got no response. Furthermore, I noted he hasn't posted in quite some time. I hope he is ok.

    So has anyone got a good pattern in PDF format? Preferably one full size, so I can print in Tile Mode and knock one out.

    Wow, that's a shame, but happy to hear everyone is o.k. Metal can be replaced....kids, not so much.
    I'm sure we'll all help any way we can, just speak up.

    Oh, it's totalled! Oddly the engine cooling system is fine, and the engine lost only a quart while on its side. The engine cranked right up after we got it home. All the kights do work, although a few lenses were busted.

    No fender made it unscathed, and the top frame is crushed. The car had no real interior anyway, so no loss there. The doors are beat up (skins and handles/latches only). But the doors open and close fine...even the door gaps appear OK, except for near the major skin damage. So I suspect the tub is ok...well, except for the right front inner fender and right front tub. Both will need to be replaced.

    All wheels got bent. Wipers bent. Windshield frame and glass smashed. Front valance, hood, and trunk lid bent up too badly to re-use. Both bumpers bent. Still don't know about suspension at large (rear swing arms, rear stub-axles, front a-arms, stub axles).

    What makes this salvageable at all is that I have all spare sheet metal for the body, and complete suspension from stripped TRs in the past. However, this one will be parked for a few years.

    We will be stripping it and evaluating what next as the pole shed is cleared out for the "new tenant."

    My youngest son asked if he would get it next..."Nope, Son, your older brother gets the one he totalled. You get Grand-daddy's later." One is white, one is red. The boys were thinking of a red stripe on the white car, and a white stripe on the red car...in mirror reverse-image.

    Oh well. I'll still be lurking here as reconstruction begins.

    How did you handle the foam gaskets? The ones I bought are just about too thin to make up for the "not-so-90- degree" corners of the back of the car. I suspect I will pull the assemblies again, and add foam weatherstripping to fill in the weaker seals.

    Yeah, this modern chrome paint is so much better than what those paints used to claim to be. Particularly on a smooth, well-prepared surface. Perfect for this application.

    I used double-sided scotch tape to position the frame-to-body gaskets on the frame (just to keep them from moving around too much while I mount the whole assy to the body). Mine were from TRF. The frame ended up being much closer to the body on the rear side marker area than on the rear panel portions. I may have tightened the side nuts a little more than i should have, but we'll see. I can adjust later. Also, if there are any gaps at the corner where the rear fenders meet the rear fascia, squirt a little weatherstripping caulk in there to fill in. Clear or black...

    Well, it's been 10 days since this happened. I think I need more than a dashboard now. At least my son and his female companion are still their respective one pieces:

    your "chrome" paint is much brighter, shinier than the Rust-Oleum I bought. I was half-tempted to return the can and try again.

I used Krylon Metallics "original chrome" paint that I got at Michael's craft store for the plastic tail/brake and turn signal reflector cones attached to the frames. Probably the best paint to use for this, really pleased with the results. Plenty of paint in the skinny can to do 2-3 coats for both sides.

    The pattern as provided printed out well enough. Once taped it was checked against the original. I'll wind up finding center on the circle cuts so the "flycutter" type bit can cut the holes round. This one is a bit down the road. Son and I just got through replacing the roof/hood this past week. He will probably become a 6-pack addict like I used to be ten years ago!

    Shoot me your email and I'll forward the pattern to you. It prints on 3 ledger size pieces of paper.

    Edges are beveled if I remember right. I do know the glove box door is beveled a bit.
    Thanks to DG, err, David, I now have a full size pattern glued together from several sheet scans. I need to cut it out and see how well it lays over my installed dash. The hunt for good wood begins!

    This is exciting. I have some 50 year old walnut that I would love to make into a dash. I wonder how tight the tolerances are for the dash? Are the edges beveled at all?
