For the 2011 6-Pack TRials in Historic Galena, Illinois

The Ramada Galena will serve as host hotel for the 2011 6-Pack TRials the weekend of September 22-25, 2011. The event organizers have put together a tentative schedule of events that they believe will live up to the high standards of previous TRials. The only thing theyn eed to ensure the 2011 TRials will be successful is you!

Galena is located in the scenic northwest corner of Illinois and easily accessible by major highways. The Galena Territory escaped the glaciers that flattened most of the Midwest during the ice age, and consequently the hills, valleys, and bluffs in this Mississippi Valley Area remain intact, providing some of the most scenic driving in the region.

The village is often referred to as “The town time forgot,” and fully 85 percent of Galena’s buildings are in a National Register Historic District. It was once a booming lead mining center and major port on the Mississippi River, and was the largest city in Illinois when Chicago was still in its infancy. While famous as the hometown of Ulysses S. Grant, eight other Civil War generals also called Galena home.

Today Galena is a popular tourist destination that avoids a “tourist trap” atmosphere while retaining its 19th century charm. The region is popular for weekend getaways for visitors who come to explore the past, to browse the shops that line Main Street, or just to relax in the natural beauty of an area.

While much of Galena is steeped in the past, the Ramada Galena is a thoroughly modern hotel complete with up-to-the-minute amenities.

It is situated on 20 acres of pristine property complete with gardens and a “catch and release” pond. It also features a large wraparound deck overlooking the grounds and a bonfire pit for our nighttime gatherings. Rooms can be reserved by calling 815-777-2043. Special room rates for the TRials Wednesday or Thursday are just $75 per night, while Friday is $119 and Saturday is $129. The rate includes a continental breakfast.

While all of the details have yet to be fi nalized, the planners have prepared a tentative schedule of events as follows:

Evening: Welcome Party

Friday (23)

Morning: General membership meeting

Afternoon: Scenic drive to Potosi Brewery and National Brewery Museum, or Tour the area’s historic sites

Evening: Pub crawl poker run/scavenger hunt and evening bonfire

Saturday (24)

Morning: Concours and popular choice car show in downtown Galena

Afternoon: Gimmick rally to Mississippi Palisades State Park

Evening: Awards Banquet

Sunday (25)

Morning: Farewells
